Licensed Therapist and Inner Ally Advocate
Introducing Diana M. Garcia, LMHC
Hey There! I’m a licensed therapist and the owner of Nurturing Minds Counseling, a private practice where I help stressed-out millennials feel more confident, calm, and capable in their lives. I also work with couples struggling with communication and seeking to reignite their connection.
In my practice, I noticed a common theme among individuals dealing with a loud inner critic. Such individuals were stuck and unable to make progress in their lives, whether it’s in making new friends, dating again, focusing on their health, or taking on new challenges. This pattern also manifested in couples therapy, where partners found it hard to listen to each other’s needs or became defensive when their inner critic showed up.
To address this issue, I’ve been applying the tools and interventions from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and my clients have experienced significant positive changes in their lives. They can now identify when their negative thoughts overwhelm them and effectively navigate them without being paralyzed. They are gradually becoming their own source of kindness, safety, and building their inner ally.
To be honest, I noticed a pattern in my clients that I could relate to – having persistent negative thoughts that sometimes took over. As a therapist, my inner critic would make me doubt my abilities to help others. I wanted to be a good therapist and do my best for my clients, but my negative thoughts kept coming back.
That’s when I discovered ACT, which changed how I engaged with my profession and helped me navigate my negative thoughts. It was a game-changer and prevented me from considering switching careers.
In my book, I’m excited to share the ACT tips that have been beneficial to my clients and myself. I hope it helps you nurture your mind, body, and soul.
As far as my credentials, I have been a therapist for over ten years and have worked in various roles, including Primary Therapist at different treatment centers and, most recently, as Director of Counseling Services at a local university. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Science in Psychology from Florida International University. In addition to being a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, I’m a Qualified Supervisor, a Certified Daring Way Facilitator, and a member of the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science. I also continue to learn and fine-tune my clinical skills, and since 2017, I have been increasing my expertise in ACT and recently started providing training for other professionals.
When I’m not working, I spend my downtime reading romantce novels/psychological thrillers, tuning into Crime Junkie, and re-watching my favorite sitcom, Friends. I live in South Florida with my fiancé and two adorable fur babies.
